6 Simple Tips to Help you Build Confidence

Does lack of confidence stop you from taking action? Does the thought of interviews, networking events or the first day of work make you feel anxious and overwhelmed? If you answered yes and if you are looking for tips to help you build confidence, you are not alone!

We are here to help.

Feeling confident is never easy, but who said you need to be born with confidence? Why not build it yourself!

Let’s talk about 6 easy and practical tips on how you can build confidence!

1. Dress in a way that makes you feel confident and change your body language.

The way you act and present yourself can help you build your confidence. Stand up straight and keep your head high. Smile more, look people in the eye, take bigger steps and speak in louder tones. These simple things can help you feel more in control and firm.

2. Start by being confident in small things.

Set a goal and do one simple thing that can help you make progress. You can get better at this by starting with something small and working your way up.

Want to start a new hobby? Start by watching tutorials on Youtube, Coursera, or Skillshare. Keen to start a new business? Invest in a business coach. Want to do something to give back to the community? Message a volunteer organisation online. Want to meet a new friend? Try smiling and saying hi to a person in your local gym!

3. Get to know yourself better and visualise your highest self!

Learn everything you can about yourself. Write down your strengths and weaknesses. Evaluate your past and your current life situation. Invest in yourself by reading books and taking classes/courses.

Everytime you wake up in the morning, get in front of the mirror and look at yourself with love. Visualise your highest and most confident self – how would you act? How would you feel? What would you do? Get clear on the person you want to become and then start showing up as them.

4. Create a success journal or a confidence-boosting playlist.

Are you familiar with gratitude journals where you can write things that you are grateful for everyday? Well, a success journal is something like that, but instead of gratitude, you’ll write about any little wins and successes in your daily life. You can start today by writing down some of the positive events from your past; where you felt most confident.

If you’re not a fan of journaling, you can create a confidence-boosting playlist instead. Search for videos and songs on Youtube or Spotify and play them everyday, or when you’re lacking confidence. Make sure that this playlist will boost your mood, help you feel alive, and become more confident.

5. Meet new people and learn from them.

If you can, try your best to attend small events or gatherings. Join groups that are aligned with your values and interests, may it be in your school, at work, or even in the community. Try your best to start initiating a conversation. Don’t worry about sounding fake or cheesy; just try to make a connection with someone else by talking about common interests or current events.

6. Avoid comparing yourself to others online and be kinder to yourself.

Remember that you are a unique human being and there is no one like you in this world. You have a special gift that only you can provide, so stop comparing yourself and your progress to other people. Compare yourself to the person you were yesterday. Looking at it that way can help you realise the progress you are making, no matter how small they are.

But at the same time…

Be kind to yourself. Don’t pressure yourself if your progress is slow or if you are not making any progress at all. Building confidence is a process that takes time and dedication, but it’s totally worth it!
